You can’t catch a whale from the shore

20260601 - You can't catch a whale from the shore

I was listening to a podcast recently. The guest was talking about investing. And he said something that stuck.

We only see the whale when it surfaces. But it’s swimming all the time.

Think about that for a moment.

The whale doesn’t cease to exist between surfacings. It’s down there. Moving. Active. Doing what it does. You just can’t see it.

Opportunity works the same way.

It doesn’t appear on a schedule. It doesn’t announce itself in advance. It surfaces briefly, and then it’s gone. And when it surfaces, you either see it or you don’t.

Here’s the part that matters: to see a whale surface, you have to be on the water.

Not reading about whales. Not talking about going out on the boat. Not planning the trip. Actually out there. On the water. Looking.

I think a lot of people are waiting on the shore. Waiting for the right moment. Waiting until things settle down. Waiting until they feel ready. And they miss the surfacing entirely.

The whale doesn’t care if you’re ready.

Being on the water doesn’t mean having everything figured out. It means showing up. Taking the calls. Sending the emails. Having the conversations. Doing the work even when nothing seems to be happening.

Because something is always happening. You just can’t see it yet.

This Week’s Motivator

The whale is swimming right now.

Get on the water.

Prompt for the Week

Where are you waiting on the shore instead of getting out on the water? What one action this week puts you back in the game?
