In this week’s MondayMotivator,

Have you ever felt like you are on a treadmill that constantly increases in speed, and it seems the only way to get off it is to blow it up? Take comfort, you are not alone.

The average person has many commitments. Life in the twenty-first century has become one enormous treadmill of distractions, with emails, mobile phones, Facebook, and Twitter adding to the heavy load of demands on one’s performance and behaviour through instant responses and quick decision-making time frames.

Is there a solution to all of this?

Yes!

We need to ask, “Where are we going?” and “What is the purpose of the journey?”

The answers might then beg the question, “Are we demanding too much of our mortal frames?” Many people punish their bodies relentlessly with the pressure of time constraints. Our bodies are built to cope with all sorts of demands, but too much can be detrimental and hold us back from achieving. The solution lies in developing the art of focus, which can make our lives much more manageable and help us achieve the desired result.

It is an established fact that the main reason people stop achieving what they want in life and hold them back from reaching their set goals is a lack of focus. Focus becomes a vital skill to make a quantum leap in life.

Results start to diminish the moment you take your focus off the task. Here are ten rules to help you focus with clarity of purpose:

1. Be committed and map out your journey. Be accurate about what you want to accept and how you are going to accomplish it. Be committed to its realisation and not to the distraction caused by other people’s agendas, which can only blur your focus.

2. Concentrate on the vital few rather than on the many trivia. Be specific and concentrate on the larger things in life. Trivia never amounts to anything. That is why it is trivia. It is not important.

3. Discard old habits. They will hold you back because habits are just behaviour adjustments done automatically. Become more disciplined in your mind management and develop good habits, which will help you achieve your desired results because they will determine your quality of life.

4. Develop personal growth, which keeps you in control of your life and undertakings. The cheapest camera properly focused brings better results than the most expensive one that is not focused. Whether it is cameras or binoculars, their function depends on focus. Likewise, human beings, if they drift from the point of focus, get blurred and go nowhere.

5. Reinforce your mental strengths and abilities. Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do. Program your belief system with a definiteness of purpose, and you will maximise the result.

6. Analyse what you want to accomplish and decide what is most important. Set your goals within a specific time frame without striving to accomplish too much or to participate in too many events in the time allotted to the purpose.

7. Have a vision and know exactly where you are going. Focus is necessary with a vision. Once you have the vision, you need planning, followed by action and finally, persistence, which is the power behind focus.

8. Concentrate on what you are good at, and life will become less stressful. Think about how you can develop the many talents you possess. Your actions will create vital positive energy to pursue even greater goals.

9. Be persistent. Determination is another string to your bow. It helps you overcome all the obstacles and challenges you will come upon and help you up the mountain of life.

10. Let go of the clutter. Let go of all the non-productive garbage in your life, both physically and mentally (like negative thoughts), and move forward. Start with what is necessary to accomplish your tasks or goals and pick up only those extras that will assist you.

The Greek philosopher Socrates was once asked about the road to Mt. Olympus. He profoundly answered, “Make sure every step is in that direction.”

Your eyes are in the front of your head because that is where you should be heading.

Just make sure every step goes in that direction.
