20240701 - Wants and Don’t Wants

In this week’s MondayMotivator,

In the story of “Alice in Wonderland,” when Alice comes to a crossroads, she asks the cat up the tree, “Which way should I go?”

The cat replies,” Where do you want to go?” Alice retorts, “I don’t know.” The cat then says, “Then it doesn’t really matter.”

What you focus on determines the results you achieve in life. Therefore, focusing your energy on the wrong things is futile.

Are you focused on what you want or on what you don’t want?

Do you even know what you want? Many people think they know what they want, but when they express themselves, it is usually in terms of ‘Don’t Wants’ disguised. Let’s look at this conundrum.

For example, a person sets out to purchase a car, and chances are it will likely be a previously owned one. What they tell everyone is that they want a reliable car. On the surface, this seems quite a positive statement, but on further scrutiny, you will see that what they are talking about is “They don’t want a car with faults.”

So, really, they are focusing on a “Don’t Want” in disguise, and what you focus on is what you get. They should say, “I want an Olive Suzuki Jimney.” and be clear on what they want.

When life is more challenging than usual and people are in a fight-and-flight mindset, they tend to focus on what they don’t want instead of what they want, and the puzzlement is that they do it unwittingly.

When you focus on what truly matters to you in your personal life, your occupation, and your relationships, amazing things start to happen. Having a clear purpose not only brings clarity but also inspiration. It’s a key that unlocks your potential and propels you forward with confidence. When you focus on what matters, you think creatively and move in a direction that serves your purpose. You follow through and achieve results.

When you think thoughts of fear, worry, self-doubt, criticism, anxiety, and other disempowering thoughts, you are not focused on what you want, and so you disempower yourself. When you allow negative thoughts to overwhelm you, you immediately embark on a journey of “Don’t Wants’, ” and that is what you will inevitably end up achieving.

Thinking and talking this way does not help you move forward positively towards what you want. Optimism and action will move you forward more than anything else.

When you know what you want and start ‘Possibility Thinking’ you create in your mind ideas on how to make it a reality. Make it a habit and make it happen.
