Hope your day is going well. Today I’m going to write about conditioning yourself to win. Winning doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process that you undertake.

For example, an Olympic Gold medallist doesn’t achieve that medal simply by turning up.

The athlete has trained every day in preparation for the big event by conditioning, disciplining and feeding their body with the correct nourishment and exercise for four or more years. Their goal is to be in their peak condition for that few days and win that medal.

The same applies to the mind and to learning.

Most learning is conditioned learning and many people condition themselves to fail through negative self-talk. Pause for a minute here. What was your immediate thought when you read about the gold medalist? Was it something like, “I’ll never be a gold medalist”. That is negative self-talk.

As a consequence of this negative self-talk, their belief system changes and they develop a poor self-image. This, in turn, fulfills their belief that they will never be able to achieve anything worthwhile because now they can’t see it. It is thought that over ninety percent of what you hear is negative talk. And it’s what the media focus on because for some reason if it bleeds it leads. We stop to check the car crash.

However, from the thousands of conversations. I have had with people over the years I have come to the conclusion that many people condition themselves negatively. I fall into that trap too.

How often have you told yourself “You silly idiot, look what you have done!” “Stupid me!”, “I knew I’d do that wrong!”

What is happening is that you’re conditioning yourself to make changes in your behaviour. To act or do better. But of course, it doesn’t work any more than the physical punishment that was handed out when I was at school. With this thinking, you are rejecting yourself, therefore it is likely you will go on repeating this behaviour.

The key to your future lies in being positive and gentle and nurturing to yourself. That way you can condition yourself to be a winner.

It won’t happen all of a sudden. You will fail. But if you want to condition yourself to win you will take note of those negative thoughts, reframe them, think better about yourself, and keep yourself pointed towards your goal and it will happen!

Start conditioning yourself to win now!
