At the start of the year, many people write down their goals.
Then life kicks in.
The list gets forgotten.
The notebook stays closed.
The Mind Movie never gets played.
Planning matters. Working backwards from a deadline matters, and spreadsheets have their place.
But there’s a more important question than all of that:
Do your daily choices support your goals?
Not someday.
Not when things “settle down.”
Today. This week. This month.
If something you’re doing doesn’t support where you say you want to go, stop doing it.
Drop it now.
Leave the space empty if you have to. Be bored. Go for a walk. Read a book. Sit with your thoughts.
Just don’t fill that space with rubbish.
The rule still applies: garbage in, garbage out.
If what you’re consuming doesn’t move you closer to your goals, stop consuming it.
Yes, it’s easy to pick up your phone and doom scroll. I get it. If you need a break, you could play a game instead. I used to play Tetris. Now I play Toon Blast. Once the lives are gone, I’m done. Phone down. Move on.
The point I’d like you to think about is to remove what doesn’t support your goals.
Get uncomfortable.
Be dissatisfied.
Or fix something.
Fix it today.
The loose toilet roll holder – fix it.
The pruning you’ve been putting off – do it tonight.
The small jobs you keep avoiding – do them now.
There are dozens of things you could be doing in support of your goals. Procrastination doesn’t help any of them.
Action does, and honestly, I believe you sleep better without all these small things on your mind.
