YourMondayMotivator: What am I doing with my life?

I was watching a Kevin Kostner movie, Swing Vote, and I thought to myself, “What am I doing with my life?”

It’s a good question isn’t it? A BIG question. One most of us apparently ask ourselves on a regular basis and try to come up with “enlightened” answers.

However when I ask myself that question I have this feeling that if I’m not volunteering to save the world, the whales, or the kids in Africa, I’m not doing enough. In my opinion that feeling is a lie feed to us by very smart ad agencies (and Churches) who want us to donate money and time to charities who sometimes are a double, or triple up, of another charity doing the same thing.

There is no need to feel guilty if you don’t have time to volunteer or enough money to donate. When you are doing your best to help your family have opportunities you didn’t have as a child you are doing what you are supposed to do.

If you get up at 6am every day to spend half an hour to an hour getting to work, and then giving your all at work, you are doing what the world needs more of.

We need more people to look after and take responsibility for themselves and their families. More people doing that will make New Zealand a better place. And once we are sorted then we can help someone else. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett built up huge fortunes before they started giving it away so don’t feel you need to give anything away just yet. Build up your own fortune and help those nearest to you first.

This week think about looking after yourself and your family first. Helping them make something of themselves helps everyone and you will be doing a GREAT thing with your life.

Have a great week.
