YourMondayMotivator: You’re kidding yourself

There may be pleasure in the memory
Of even these events one day.

Virgil, Aeneid
Hardships are a fact of Life. In fact you could even say hardships are what strengthens you to a point where you can be sharp. By sharp I mean alive, alert, curious, open to new ideas and paying close attention to what you are doing.
I might have mentioned I am reading Seneca, Letters from a Stoic. The line at the beginning is from one of his letters where he is talking about bearing up to pain, even torture, and hardship, and smiling at it. Knowing it will pass. Sometimes for a moment or sometimes forever. Because he says if you are dead you will no longer be in pain. It is a curious thing then pain, because it means if you feel it you’re alive..

However the main point of today is that; you are as unhappy as you think and tell yourself you are.
The language you use, “No one has suffered as much as I have”, “You have no idea how much pain I am in. How much I’ve suffered” and the extra embellishments you add to your stories of woe. Stories brought up from another time when in fact they are long over and there is better stuff to talk about. Positive stuff. Stuff that moves you instead of bogging you down.
A lot of people drop their heads when they are facing hardship when they should be holding them up and fighting.
When you find yourself dropping your head, or telling one of your stories of woe, pause and lift your chin. Look up. Look around. Brace yourself and move on to better things. Doing this will make a difference to your attitiude and your body. We are not made to constnantly look down. It curves our backs. It shortens and decreases us. Stand and look ahead. That is you’re natural state. Why would you want to do anything else?
Have a great day.
