Actions, not words, create who you are… your character. What is character? One dictionary meaning is:
Character (noun): The combination of qualities or features that distinguishes one person, group, or thing from another.
Our character defines us and is more important than the glossy surface stuff we are told will make our lives better. If the glossy stuff worked, then why is it, people who have “made it” can still feel they are living unfulfilled, unhappy lives.
There are FIVE main traits that make up your character:
Trustworthiness – honest, have the courage to do the right thing, reliable, loyal
Respect – treat others how you want to be treated, tolerant, have good manners, be considerate of the feelings of others
Responsibility – do what you are supposed to do, persevere, do your best, self-control, accountable for your choices
Fairness – play by the rules, be open-minded; listen to others, don’t take advantage of others, don’t blame others
Caring – be kind, show you care, be grateful, help people in need
We are not perfect and will slip from time to time.
However, if you can keep the five attributes of good character near the front of your mind, you will make a difference.
Not only to yourself but to all those you come in contact with.
Have a terrific week and maybe print today’s Monday Motivator out to remind yourself and others of the attributes of a good character.
