My mighty VW Passat is gone. Sold to a guy who seemed to like it as much as me. I almost didn’t sell it because I could have driven it for a bit longer, or turned it into a track day car, but four cars was one too many and it had to go.
It’s amazing how attached you can get to a vehicle. If you don’t like cars as much as me imagine the feeling of losing a pet cat or dog.
Big events like this are a good time to reflect on what you have done over a certain time. They make things a lot easier to remember because they are attached to the object of the event.
My Passat was a big deal for me. I remember first driving it and being smitten. It annoyed me because I knew I just had to have it. A deal was done, the car I had only owned for five weeks was traded in, and I was rolling in my very first “grown up” car.
The confidence it gave me was huge. I even got finance on it which at the time was a bit of a punt on BMW Finance’s side. Paying it off early was a big event too. It meant my business was doing well and I was out of debt. That was an amazing feeling.
Driving it for the last time on Sunday was a bittersweet. It was great I had sold it but I was sad to be driving it for the last time. The last seven years have been huge. Some days it seemed like nothing happened. But the one thing I attempted to do each day to get me to my goals has added up and up and I have achieved more than I thought I would.
Next time a big event happens to you take the time to reflect on how far you have come. There will be more accomplishments than you think. Take the time, it really is worth it.
My best.
