YourMondayMotivator: How do you treat your backyard?

Coming over to Bali for the first time is great. You can still get a real sense of what a third world country is and see the traditions living on in the old people, as the young move on. The young people we have talked to want to move forward, but like to see the traditional way of life retained by their grandparents.

What I have really noticed is that Bali is Australia’s backyard. Some people have been coming here for 30 years and treat the place and the people well, and some, …. don’t treat it well.

Do you chuck stuff out in your backyard and abuse the neighbours? Not likely. Through it all the Balinese smile and shrug things off.

It’s all about acceptance.

Why moan it’s dirty and the smells are terrible when there’s nothing you can do to change it. That’s the way it is.

To me it’s great. I like how things are because very soon it won’t be like this at all and you will have to go even further out to see the real Bali. Which is something I recommend – maybe with a more comfy scooter than the one we rode.

You can do this at home too. Get out there and get lost wherever you are. You will see more than just the superficial main streets and if you get really, really lost, ask. Someone will put you back on the road to home.

This week have a look at your backyard. How are you treating it?
Have a great week.
