YourMondayMotivator: Goals and Guitar Practice

“I know you’ve heard it a thousand times before. But it’s true – hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don’t love something, then don’t do it.” — Ray Bradbury.
This year will be the forth year I have been having guitar lessons. That’s a long time. A lifetime for some relationships.
This year I wanted to make the most of my lessons and to do that I have to practice, a lot. Ten + minutes per day is the minimum if you want to get good at something. And I really do. For several reasons. One is I want to be able to play guitar for Alba and sing silly songs for her.
Guitar Maton - YourMondayMotivator: Goals and Guitar Practice
For the last few months I have been racking my brain to find a way to fit in practice every day. It’s really hard. You might be thinking “It’s only ten minutes Glenn. How hard can it be to fit that in?”
Well, have a look at your own life. Is there something you would like to be doing? Something you love, or used to love, but have no time for now? A goal you would like to achieve but can’t fit it in. That’s guitar for me.
So what to do? For the time being it’s easy. I get to work early to get stuff done but noticed I spend some of the time just surfing the net. So I decided I could spend that time practicing the guitar.
Boom! Problem solved and I have been practicing every day. It even made it easier to practice at home on the weekend. I picked my guitar up while Alba was playing and she had a jiggle to Ed Shearan’s “A Team.”
Now I’m not saying this is the complete answer for the year because there will be holidays and busy days. But I do know this – I’m in the habit of practicing now and that’s how you achieve goals, forming habits that move you towards where you want to be.
Have a great week and see what taking up the ten minutes a day stopping you from doing something you love or achieving your goals.
