minimotivator 29042020 768x768 - Never judge a book by its cover.

Hi, there!

They say, “Never judge a book by its cover.” What about a photo in your feed, a photo on a blog, a photo on Instagram?

Why do people seem to just take offence or make a comment based on just the picture when they haven’t actually read the article?

For example, I posted a minimotivator with the picture above and got some immediate feedback.

I had some people who said, “That’s a terrible picture. Why did you post that?”.

I said, “Did you read the comment that I made? Did you read the article, the minimotivator I wrote?”

“No, I didn’t.”

Because when you read the article, it made sense. It was me at 12:57 am just finishing a 45-minute workout so I didn’t miss a day of 75 Hard. I’ve also just realised I haven’t read my 10 pages for the day and ended up in bed at 2 am, argh!

So, I’m wondering how much else is taken out of context for you and me? Because a lot is taken out of context for famous people for other peoples gain every minute of every day.

But what about in your daily life? What about pausing for a moment and saying, “Hang on a sec. Have I got that right?”, and asking the other person, “What do you mean?”.

That questioning, that pause, that space while you communicate with the other person can stop a lot of miscommunication. Getting into the habit of doing this takes time and focus. You have to want to do it. But, the gains it gives you are so worth it and will compound over time.

This will lead to better relationships, better communication, basically better everything.

So, next time you’re looking at a picture, maybe read the caption and make sure you’ve actually got the full story. Judging a book by its cover is never as good as reading the reviews.

Have a successful week. Stay safe and stay connected.
