In my opinion, the greatest reward success [insert your idea of success here] brings is joy.
Although we often assume that the accumulation of wealth is the only measure of success, it is but one measure. It is an important one to be sure. But, I believe that true success is marked by the satisfaction of knowing you have done a job and done it well – that you have achieved the goal you set for yourself.
For example, Einstein never attained great wealth in his lifetime. But could anyone say he was unsuccessful? Maybe in proving several theories before he passed yet his success lives on today.
So, how can you motivate yourself to succeed? How can you feel the joy of being successful?
The answer is to develop a burning desire for something you wish to have in order to reach the greater goal you have set yourself.
Take the time and set yourself a definite goal in life.
Write it down.
Commit it to memory.
Direct every thought and all your energies to making it come true.
This will give you the strength to stop momentary setbacks throwing you off course. You will instead look for the benefit in them and get back on track to your goal quickly.
Like the great Stoic philosopher Seneca said, “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favourable.”
