It is great news that the fight is back on with Hopate at The Festival Hall in Melbourne on March 18. It is really important to win this fight, not only to get that winning feeling back but to get back on track to achieving my goals.

The last few months have been fairly busy with the fight preparation and becoming a home owner. I have just bought a house in Auckland and have been doing some landscaping to it which has kept me occupied but I did manage to get in a bit of fishing with the LG boys which was awesome and we even caught some good size snapper. I have also been helping out with Youth Pride which is a free holiday programme run by Tea Ropati and some of the Warriors and Blues.  It is a great concept which teaches manners, leadership and teamwork to 11-17 year olds while having a bit of fun along the way.

My fitness is going really well and I start sparring this week and get stuck into the heavy end of training until fight week.  I leave for Melbourne at the end of next week so we will be based there until the fight.

Training has been full on and I have a new trainer just to try a different approach.  However some things never change and it is back to the super early starts.  I have been doing some more cross training and track work over 400m, which is a new method for me in addition to the old sprint work.  The purpose of this is to keep the body work rate up at a high intensity for the same amount of time as a fight round.

My hand is fully recovered and feels 100%.  I didn’t realise how constraining the rods in my hand were until I had them taken out.  I had just got so use to them, but it was a great feeling of freedom with the movement of punching since they have been taken out.

So check this website back in a few weeks and I will let you know how it’s going from across the ditch.
